Six Sigma is a well defined highly disciplined process that helps to focus on developing and delivering near-perfect products and services. In statistical term Six Sigma measures how far a given process deviates from perfection. The central idea behind Six Sigma is that if you can measure how many defects you have in a process, you can systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close to zero defects as possible. To achieve Six Sigma quality, a process must produce no more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Six Sigma will help organizations to eliminate waste, reduce process variations, and move higher towards the next level of sophisticated continuous improvement.

Lean Six sigma uses a special infrastructure of people within the organization (“Champions”, “Master Black Belts”, “Black Belts”, “Green Belts”, etc) who are experts in the methodology. According to several surveys Lean Six Sigma Black Belts save companies approximately $230,000 per project and can complete four to 6 projects per year. General Electric, one of the most successful companies implementing Six Sigma, has estimated benefits in the order of $10 billion during the first five years of implementation.

Anwar Sadique describes himself as an Engineer by education, a Lean/Six Sigma Professional by experience, and a statistician out of necessity. He holds a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Cleveland State University, USA and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering. He worked at Cleveland State University in USA, Superior Roll Forming in USA, and ALCAN USA, as a Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager. Since 2006, he has provided Lean/Six Sigma methodology, quality engineering and applied statistical training and consulting services for R&D, product, process, and manufacturing engineering organizations through his company. He is a member of American Society for Quality. He coauthored “Advances in Sustainable Manufacturing” book published in 2011. Anwar is an ASQ Certified Manager of Quality & Organizational Excellence and ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. In his free time, Anwar likes to travel and play chess.
