DQG AGM elects new Board including three women members

The Dubai Quality Group (DQG) on Tuesday held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elected new Chairman and Board members.

Dr. Yousef Ebrahim Al-Akraf, Executive Vice President – Business Support, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) received majority votes from the DQG members and won the title as Board Chairman for a three-year term, 2013-2015. He will assume his office in January 2013.

As per the new constitution of the Group, all Board Members exercise their duties for three years after which managers and active members of the Group elect a new Board. The voting results have been announced at the end of the AGM, which highlighted previous years’ achievements, overview of the annual financial report, discussion of upcoming initiatives and different ideas of DQG’s agenda. The new Board of Directors includes: Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Muaini (Dubai Police) Vice-Chairman, Mr. Sunil Bahri (Kaizensox Consulting FZE) Secretary General, and Mr. Prashant Nasery (The Kanoo Group) Finance Director. Three women were elected as Board Members. They are: Ms. Fatma Al-Mheiri (Community Development Authority), Ms. Sevil Ermin (The Nielsen Company), and Ms. Seza Vaziri (Xerox Emirates).

The outgoing chairman, Mr. Saleh Janeeh welcomed the newly-elected Board Chairman and members. In his speech on the occasion he said, “Being a part of DQG has been one of the most important experience of my life where my work, achievements, aspirations and development completed with a spirit of quality and excellence. During all these years, our joint efforts made the Group touch unbelievable peaks. This was possible only with a wonderful team spirit. We knew that ambitions were still growing, so were the challenges”.

He added: “During a short period of time from the life of the Group, we have drawn broad prospects for innovation and translated with a sense of responsibility and construction, many visions for improvement, relying on the creative ideas and persuasive aspirations of the builder of Dubai’s Renaissance, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and gaining confidence to continue from the directives of the Honorary Patron of DQG, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of the Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline & Group”.

Dr. Yousef Al-Akraf expressed contentment over the transparent election of the new Board of Directors in which three women members were also elected in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The election of women members is meant to support, strengthen and encourage the professional presence of women in various entrepreneurial positions, enabling them to serve the principle of accessing comprehensive development and general renaissance that boost the UAE presence in all fields.

He said, “The trust that brought us here will always be our motivation to build more ambitions and seek new successes that will be added to the achievements of the UAE, witnessed every day. We meet on this occasion to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. I pray to Allah to bless me and you with success to be worthy for this trust and for this duty and national obligations.”

“I am confident that our joint efforts will lead us to great heights, excellence and quality of business and practices in our Emirates. And in Dubai, the city of everything new, we will work together as a team in order to complete the process of construction and excellence with efforts that do not know the impossible. We will preserve achievements created by our predecessors and we will add to them. We will be another addition to the Dubai Quality Group,” Dr. Yousef Al-Akraf added.

Mr. Mohammad Bu Shanain, Executive Director of Corporate Quality and Management Excellence, Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), said, “DED congratulates the new Board of Directors of DQG and wishes them all the success. At the same time, we are glad to see a local lady assuming a position in the Board as per the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, in supporting local women to be considered as integral part of our society so that they can play a major role in various government sectors. We are glad to see DQG reaching tremendous heights and spreading the cultures of quality, excellence and innovation among every sector.”
