Dubai Quality Group empowers women
The Emirates Women Award is one of the most important initiatives that focuses on a major and important segment in the society.
The UAE is the best place in the world to encourage women’s talent and empowers them with recognition of an award which is in line with the vision of its leadership, said managing director of Dubai Quality Group, or DQG.
“The 11th edition of the Emirates Women Award is scheduled in May 2014 and we are open to receiving entries from nationals, expats, businesses and individuals. In 2013, we received about 50 entries and are very optimistic the figure will soon swell to higher numbers,” Badriya Al Tamimi told Khaleej Times in an exclusive interview.
“The awards will be given by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Honorary Patron for Dubai Quality Group.”
UAE women hold key leadership positions in ministries and government entities and are joining boards of companies, institutions and public and private bodies in different fields such as education, medicine and health.
“The non-profit organisation is responsible for improving the standards of quality and excellence in Dubai for public and private companies and aims to make all the necessary efforts and initiatives that ensure empowerment of women and keeping up with the latest global developments in line with its goals and strategic plans,” she added.
The Emirates Women Award is one of the most important initiatives that focuses on a major and important segment in the society, as it celebrates the achievements of women as successful business women, who own and run their company or project efficiently and effectively, or are successful employees or managers with excellent skills and unique capabilities and talent that make them a key and vital part of the team. The award uses several criteria in selecting the winners including leadership, innovation, community contributions, career achievements, and strategic and financial planning.
“This award aims to keep pace with the significant growth in the size of projects and private companies run by Emirati businesswomen and the leading role played by these projects in supporting the national economy through the diversification of sources of income and creating more job opportunities for UAE nationals in the private sector. All Emirati women working in the public and private sectors, citizens or residents of the UAE can participate in the competition which also reinforces the UAE’s position as a model of harmonious coexistence between different peoples and cultures,” said Badriya Al Tamimi.
“We are adding a new category to the award this year and reaching out to women who excel in new fields as individually talented in their respective fields such as art, sports and science.”
The applications will be divided into two main categories: business owners category and professionals category including employees in the public and private sectors. The winners will be selected by a team of assessors and jury whose members possess high expertise, integrity, and reliability.
The jury will adopt a set of rules and regulations for each category. With regards to the business owner category, the applicant must be the owner of the company or a partner in the UAE for a period of minimum three years. In addition, the applicant must be primarily responsible for the current performance of her business.
With regard to professional category, the applicant must be employed at one of the institutions in the public or private sectors in the UAE and must have worked in the same professional sector for a minimum of three years.
The 11th edition of the DQG award is sponsored by Abu Dhabi Business Women Council and Etisalat Services Holdings and Dewa as platinum sponsors and the British Orchard Nursery as gold sponsors.
