The Emirates Business Women Award is an award which is aimed at publicly acknowledging and rewarding-the work that is being carried out by businesswomen (Nationals & Expatriates) in the UAE today by identifying and recognising outstanding business prowess. Women make up half the worlds population. They have long been a powerful force in economic decision-making all over the world, particularly in purchasing within the consumer market, and have contributed on the world scene in many fields. Women are also developing as business leaders and will, increasingly, go on to hold business positions at the highest levels of decision making and corporate leadership. The Emirates Businesswomen Award is targeted to provide a showcase for businesswomen so as to encourage women to take an active role in the strategic development of UAE as well as the region. The award intends to raise the profile of the businesswomen working in the UAE today. These outstanding women will come to the attention of the wider community, exposing them to new business opportunities, networks and friendships. The Dubai Quality Group manages the Award.

There is a substantial role women play in society in developing and contributing to the economy. It is the responsibility of the people of thecountry to ensure higher levels of participation and involvement from business women in various sectors of the economy. Through the support and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, the UAE has established a strong reputation as a global player and in encouraging women to participate alongside men in the development of their country.

In light of last year's success it gives me great pleasure to support the annual Emirates Businesswomen Award 2003-2004. A forum that will highlight the numerous success stories of professional women of the UAE. The organization of this event, with the world of business women, aims to accentuate the achievements of professional women in this society and recognize their efforts in the development of our society.

Given the interest expressed with the participation evident in Emirates Businesswomen Award 2002-2003 I am positive this year's event will give participants a different outlook towards the value of their professional development in this economy.

I believe all women should take this forum as an opportunity to recognize their achievements in light of the challenges facing women in today's market.
