Education Sub-Group Meeting was held in the offices of Dubai Quality
Group on 26th August 2002.

Minutes
of the Meeting dated 26th August 2002
1 - Welcome and review of agenda
- Badriya Al-Tamimi introduced Abdulla A. Abulhoul,
Managing Director of Mediac Communication and Promotion to the group.
Abdulla Abulhoul informed the group about the following strategic dates:
6th - 9th April 2002 : World of Education (under patronage of HH Mohammad Bin Rashid)
8th - 11th April 2002 : Gulf Education (under patronage of Ministry of
Higher Education)
2 - International Conference on Standards of Quality Assurance in
Higher Education
Discussions were held regarding the International Conference on Standards
of Quality Assurance in Higher Education -
Patronage Issue - it was decided to have the event under the patronage
of the Ministry of Higher Education.
Resolution : DQG will approach the Ministry of Higher Education for this purpose; did not do so previously because
waiting for a consensus on this from the Sub-Group committee
Objective of Conference - create a forum that will allow for an exchange of
quality experience in education among educational professionals from the
West and East; those who attend will have the opportunity to benefit from this
arena, in terms of discussing ways to meet requirements and standards for
accreditation
Scope of Conference - members decided that this conference will be in
collaboration with the following parties within the scope mentioned here below
DQG - acknowledge and appreciate Ajman University for proposing such an event, it was decided that educational subgroup member's will act as a technical advisor in this conference, for review and frame the action plan for achieving objectives.
Arab and European Universities.
League of Arab nations - will be invited to attend; Abdulla Abulhoul raised
concern to the possibility that the Arab League may vote and decide to hold
this conference in the future in another country. It was noted by reps of
Ajman University that this is an event that aims to benefit the region - and
this should not pose as an obstacle.

Issues to consider :
- Dubai Convention Center will be complete in March 2003; following which
conference licenses will be protected (exhibition licenses are protected
already)
-The theme of the Conference will be distributed to all attendees -Badriya
- 9 Sept
-In next meeting details of the Conference will be discussed - Sub-Group
-18 Sept
3 - Mission and objectives of Education Sub-Group
A mission and objectives for this Sub-Group were set
Mission - Creating awareness of quality standards in the educational sector
Sub-Group committee will think of improving the above mentioned
Sub-Group mission statement. Any new suggestions will be stipulated in next 18 Sept

Objectives
a - Establish networks with other universities
b - Execute International Conference on Standards of Quality Assurance
in Higher Education
The objectives set are preliminary and only a step to have the Education
Sub-Group unite and accordingly set a direction with specific objectives
and strategies for this Sub-Group
