ABOUT THE LEAN SUMMIT:

Dubai Quality Group (DQG) and the Lean Gulf Institute (LGI) present The Inaugural Lean Gulf Summit in Dubai from 8 -9 November 2020.

The Summit, under the theme 'Go Lean - Learn, Improve, and Inspire', will share timely information to inspire Lean Leaders, practitioners and improvement newcomers across the region and beyond from those just starting out to seasoned Continual improvement and innovation focused leaders from many industries-construction, banking, healthcare, service, manufacturing, hospitality and other vital sectors.

The practical learning format features exceptional keynote presentations from Internationally recognized, published Lean Sensei, peer-to-peer discussions, and more on 8th November 2020, and full and half day workshops focusing on interactive learning and sharing of ideas on 9th November 2020 (Click Here for more info).

This event will provide a forum where global experts and gurus in Lean will attend and speak.     Workshop Title: An Introduction to Lean Accounting (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

    Lean is a multi-faceted business strategy, with a primary focus on employees and learning. Through the use of various lean tools, practices and methods, employees learn to master their work, solve the right problems and help an organization learn how to doing things tomorrow it cannot do today. That’s why we should always talk about “lean thinking” as opposed to “doing lean”.

    Lean also changes the way an organization thinks about making money. The financial impact of a lean strategy is well known – all we need to do is look at the many companies that have been successful in their transformations. We know that focusing an organization on customer value will result in revenue growth, and that the deployment of lean tools and techniques that create flow and eliminate waste will result in improved cost management. These are the economics of lean.

    But before any of that appears, a fundamental shift must occur in what and how an organization measures itself operationally and financially. Financial management must be aligned with the economics of lean, and that’s what lean accounting is all about.

    To achieve success, a lean organization must develop an effective and efficient management accounting function that complements its financial accounting system to provide a knowledge base for effectively making decisions about the future (this is critical because the focus of financial accounting is on past activity). Lean accounting makes relevant information available to decision makers on a timely basis.

 

 


In this workshop, you will learn:

  • how to build and use a lean management accounting system to make relevant information available to decision makers on a timely basis

  • how to sustain a lean management accounting system with lean financial coaches

  • Introduce and explain the methods of Lean Accounting and how each works in a lean company

  • Demonstrate how to use a box score for typical operating and financial such as profitability analysis, cost management, financial planning, investment analysis and value stream financial management

Who Should Attend?

    Learn, Improve, and Engage in your Lean Journey
    (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

    Traditionally we learn in classrooms and in real life. Since Lean is so different from what we have learned in our formal education, many people struggle with the concept and find it challenging to apply. Lean is simple unless you choose to stick to your old routines and habits. In this workshop we teach in several ways how people can engage in real life experiences, test their Lean skills in applying them in funny, challenging, engaging and sometimes competitive games, quizzes and exercises!

    Organizations that use this type of learning find it a lot easier to engage people in their Lean journey, while teaching Lean skills along in an easy and at the same time, profound way. Participants will join in a quiz to test their skills, learn about flow and pull and the misunderstandings of sub-optimization of the parts versus real flow and pull in different exercises. Participants will solve some real life problems, debate about specific propositions and come up with their best solutions in simulations...

    By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned about different ways to engage people in learning activities, by engaging in different exercises, games and quizzes.

  • Engage in multiple fun exercises and experience different ways to learn about Lean concepts and methods.
  • Test their own individual and group skills in solving practical problems and application of Lean ideas in different environments.
  • Learn how to engage people in learning as a group activity and how small exercises can make people change their thinking and behavior.
  • Learn how to create their own learning experiences within their own organization.

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in learning and teaching Lean in a fun and engaging way. It is not just about fun, focus is the learning of people.

    Workshop Title:
    Last Planner® System (LPS®): Reliable Workflow By Design (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)
     

    This 1-day workshop introduces the Last Planner® System (LPS®) – a project planning and production control process that asks for commitments and promises from team members to meet the overall target schedules. The course includes a building simulation activity, working backwards with sticky notes, to familiarize participants with all LPS® associated practices, namely, Phase Planning, Make Ready Planning, and Weekly Work Planning levels including percent plan complete calculations.  Case studies are discussed to emphasize the underlying principles in LPS®.  
     

    Learning Objectives:

    By participating in the workshop, the participants will:

  • Understand the principles of the Last Planner® System (LPS®) and associated Lean Construction concepts.
  • Experiment with implementing LPS® on a simulated  project exercise.
  • Use the LPS® deliverables to learn the art of negotiating commitments and production reliability assessment.
  • Discuss typical working environment of the Make-Ready and Weekly Work Planning meetings, including analysis and potential improvement cycles.

    Workshop Title: Utilizing Value Stream Mapping to Identify Waste and Improve Performance (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

    Workshop Objectives

    This workshop will sharpen your "eyes for waste" and "eyes for flow." Using a manufacturing case study you'll learn how to identify a product family, how to see the entire value stream for a particular product family, how to map the value stream to identify and eliminate waste, what makes a value stream lean, and how to develop a plan to achieve results.

    At the completion of this workshop, the learner will be able to appreciate the importance of identifying waste and understanding the current state before making any decisions to change the process.

    Value stream mapping is a lean-management method for analyzing the current state and designing a future state for the series of events that take a product or service from its beginning through to the customer.

    Workshop Description

    One of the cornerstones of any successful Lean project is the value-stream map (VSM). Along with representing every step in the process, it also identifies process barriers (or waste), material and information flow, and key performance metrics and other data. It differs significantly from tools such as process mapping or layout diagrams because it includes information flow as well as material flow.

    To fully grasp the power of VSM, you first need to understand and identify waste. We’ll start this fast paced, highly interactive, applied workshop by introducing you to the concepts of “Value” and “Waste” and what they mean to the customer. We’ll do this via an interactive exercise that highlights the 8 wastes and illustrates the value of standard work. Once we’ve identified waste, we’ll complete an industry specific value stream map utilizing LeanFITT (www.leanfitt.com).  
     

    Among other benefits, VSMs can help you:

  • Improve the overall flow of value to the customer and deliver the biggest benefits
  • Identify and eliminate process and system waste
  • Avoid the common mistake of "cherry-picking" individual lean techniques, which creates isolated islands of improvement and limited benefits
  • Reveal where lean techniques, such as kaizen events, could be utilized for maximum effects


This workshop shows you how to create and apply this fundamental and critical tool, utilizing our groundbreaking software LeanFITT. As part of the learning process, participants will practice the Value Stream Mapping cycle in a real lean environment under the guidance of an experienced Lean practitioner. This rare opportunity will help embed the learning through an experiential activity in a fast-paced, critical operation.

Workshop Title: Future is here: Integration of BIM and Lean in Construction Industry (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)
 

Description:
 

With a century of studies and applications, Lean Thinking has transformed the manufacturing and many service industries all over the world. On the contrary, construction industry while has grown significantly in size over the last century, have become more and more inefficient in satisfying the demand of fast, precise, and optimized solutions. According to World Economic Forum on average daily 200,000 people migrate to urban areas and construction industry contributes to 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Technology advancements have paved to way to explore new ways such as BIM, application of drones and robots in construction. Yet, these concepts have largely followed by technology developers in an isolated pass. Indeed it is time for a big change! Construction industry has to adapt substantial and rapid changes not only to cope with the demand but also to increase the productivity index currently showing 25% decrease compare to 1960s according to US labor market statistics. Future is Lean BIM. Lean BIM (we will refer to it as iBIM) unlocks numerous opportunities using state of the art technologies i.e. IoT, Robotics, VR, AR, AI and Blockchain. These versatile tools are expected to transform construction industry, while assuring quality and precise information flow across its stakeholders.

In this workshop, cutting edge technologies, novel solutions and construction Startup will be introduced. The focus is on how internet-based BIM (iBIM), integration with Lean concepts and application of state of the art technologies such as VR, AR and Blockchain is going to eliminates wastes in construction industry and contribute to a smarter, economical and enhanced construction.

At the end of this workshop, participants are expected to be familiar with the application of latest technologies in the construction industry and demonstrate how startups could play a big role on not only changing the current traditional form of construction yet contribute on how change in the construction industry could unlock a bigger challenge which is reduction of greenhouse gasses.

Workshop Title: Value Stream Mapping (8:00 am)

Description:

Waleed Mazen holds more than 15 years’ experience in training and coaching in lean management.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering – Industrial Engineering from Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, plus an Executive MBA from Imperial College London in the UK. He has also qualified as a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt & Lean Master Practitioner.

He has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and best practices by serving client organisations throughout a variety of industries, geographies and cultures – saving them many millions of dollars in the process

 

Workshop:

What is Value Stream Mapping? VSM is a technique used to visually document the flow of information and materials within a business to differentiate companywide processes that add value from those that generate waste.

It provides the basis for the analysis and improvement of key business processes by identifying areas of waste. Value Stream Mapping is a powerful enabler in identifying and addressing the valuable opportunities in any organisation’s processes.

Using practical exercises, examples and group activity you will learn how VSM is used to analyse and re-design end-to-end processes and involve multiple departments or functions.

The goal of the workshop is to give participants practical skills needed to use Value Stream Mapping within an organisation.
