CASE STUDY:

The seminar, organized by Dubai Quality Group’s Continual Improvement Subgroup, will present a good practice in Team Based Improvement.

In the evening seminar, EMAL will share application of “LEAN MANAGEMENT”. Since its conception, EMAL Operations have set an aim to achieve Operational Excellence and position EMAL’s name as a benchmark in the industry. In order to fulfill this intention, Operations underwent gradual stages of Start-up, Ramp-up, and Steady State.

After more than 3 years of Operations at EMAL, we have set unprecedented milestones, we have seen a lot of achievements, but we also see a lot of challenges ahead of us.

Today, we would like to share our Operational Excellence journey with all of you. All the steps of our journey have been designed following Lean concepts and have been made sustainable in time, with continuous improvement. Our Team, fully supported by the leaders of the organization, is successfully creating a business culture whose main principles are:

  • People are the core of the system
  • Make to use
  • Eliminate waste

LEARNING AREAS:

Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Problem Solving A3, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, Six Sigma, Benchmarking, etc.

PRESENTER:

Angel works as Senior Lean Engineer at Emirates Aluminum, supporting Power Plant and Reduction areas in the successful implementation of Lean Manufacturing. His qualifications include: MSc. in Chemical Engineering from University of Santiago (Spain), Diploma-thesis on Fluid Dynamics simulations from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany), Post-graduate MSc. In Health & Safety from Inga for (Spain), ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor from BSI. He is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at the London Business School (UK).

Angel worked for Alcoa for more than 5 years, where he led cost saving projects on raw materials consumption across different refineries in Spain, Australia, Brazil and Surinam using Lean Techniques.
He joined EMAL in 2010, since then, he is broadening his experience in smelting and power generation processes as he pursues new opportunities for cost savings, productivity and efficiency enhancements through Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Problem Solving A3, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, Six Sigma, Benchmarking, etc.

Angel defines himself as a dutiful, passionate, trustworthy and results-oriented person with a great self-discipline, leadership capacity and team spirit who strives to enhance the performance of the teams he works with. He is from Spain, and his hobbies are travelling and doing sports.
